Max was finishing his espresso when Ethan entered the dining room. "You're late," he remarked. "I had to start without you as I have some early business to attend to."

"Sorry. I took a long shower. It felt good." Ethan's eyes burned into Max's as he approached his chair and bent over him to steal a kiss. "It was a great shower," he murmured against Max's mouth. "Very thorough."

Their lips met gently in stark contrast to the voracious, nearly violent kiss they'd exchanged earlier that morning after Max had ordered Ethan to stroke himself to climax in the shower while he watched. Max's groin tingled pleasantly as he recalled the way Ethan had stiffened, spine curved, mouth open in a sensuous gasp as he'd painted the tile walls with ejaculate graffiti. Afterwards, Ethan had slumped beneath the spray of the shower head and looked up beneath his dripping bangs at Max. The look had been both sensual and loving. It had made Max want to ravish him all over again.

What a beautiful way to begin the morning.

He watched the blond settle carefully into the chair across from him. "Sore?"

"I'm alright." Ethan laughed a little. "It's the kind of soreness I like."

Max withheld comment but the response pleased him and he was aware that Ethan knew it.

Ethan served himself from the plate of fresh fruits and bagels that Analisa had laid out for them. "So what's this business you mentioned?" he asked as he squeezed out a demitasse of espresso from his French press. He groaned as he sipped it. "Thank you for introducing this to me, by the way. You've turned me into an addict for it."

"Your fetishes are many and varied," Max commented. He checked the schedule on his Blackberry. "I have a meeting with a contractor before I begin work at the office. Dominic is aware he'll be driving you by yourself while I attend to this other business."

"Sounds shady," Ethan said with a grin.

Max arched a brow. "I prefer 'mysterious'."

Ethan's smirk caused Max's cock to seriously consider a morning quickie. "You're already tall, dark, and handsome," the blond said, amused. "If you add mysterious to the list I'll be beating them back with a stick."

"I'll lend you mine."

Ethan's smile disappeared. "Max—"

"Don't bother, Ethan. You made amends last night. I accepted your apology."

But Ethan couldn't eat. "Tell me you believe me and you trust me. Tell me you understand that I have no interest in Rob Rexum or any other guy who will come along in the future."

Carefully slicing a piece of cantaloupe, Max replied, "I understand you have no interest in Rob Rexum. I believe you and I trust you."

While he didn't feel emasculated by saying words he had always associated with the submissive partner in a relationship, Max was uncomfortable with declaring his trust aloud. To trust Ethan was to hand over to him the power to betray and hurt Max. It was a relinquishment that Max didn't do very often and when he did, as now, it was with no small amount of private trepidation.
